Short version

HousePlants.ai does not require an account, does not use advertising or analytics tracking, and does not sell personal information. The app has no subscriptions or in-app purchases.

What stays on your iPhone

Your profile, plant collection, care settings, watering history, journal entries, and local photos are stored on your device. You can use Profile → Delete All My Data to remove app data; deletion is irreversible.

When iCloud is available, selected plant state and preferences may be mirrored through Apple's private iCloud key-value store. Journal and profile photos remain on the device.

Optional photos and identification

If you choose Plant Identifier, the selected photo is sent over HTTPS to Pl@ntNet to return an identification result. You provide and control the Pl@ntNet API key, which is stored in the iOS Keychain. Indie House does not bundle or receive a shared key. Photos submitted to Pl@ntNet are handled under Pl@ntNet's own terms and privacy policy.

Camera and photo-library access can also be used for plant or profile photos. These permissions are optional.

Optional location and Apple services

If you grant Location permission and use climate-aware care, the app uses your approximate location to request a forecast from Apple WeatherKit. HomeKit sensor monitoring, Calendar export, and notifications are also optional and are controlled by your device permissions.

Apple, Pl@ntNet, and other service providers process information under their own privacy terms when you use the related feature.

Your choices

You can decline or revoke optional permissions in iOS Settings, remove your Pl@ntNet key from the Plant Identifier screen, and delete app data from Profile. The app does not maintain a user account or a server-side plant journal.
